Snowshoe Hikes: Learning in a Winter Wonderland

Since 2016, the CPAWS Southern Alberta interpretive snowshoe program has been getting students out into the snowy, silent beauty that surrounds us in wintertime!

The program has grown and evolved over the years, but it has always been about exploration and activity—just getting out to reconnect with nature during a season that is too often spent indoors.

As with all of our outdoor education programs, CPAWS educators provide a wealth of knowledge as outdoor guides, identifying trees and shrubs, animal scat and perhaps even fresh tracks from deer, pine marten, snowshoe hare or even wolves!

Students learn a new skill in navigating snowshoes, build stamina and endurance, and of course, get to bound downhill in metre-deep, fluffy snow!
