We’re Hiring Two Summer Outreach Students!
Position Description
The successful candidate will be a returning student who is passionate about conservation with skills, understanding or education around environmental science and/or communications. They will be a highly organized, outgoing self-starter who works well with people of all walks of life, is well spoken, and has an engaging personality.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate CPAWS conservation and education work and programming to the Alberta public through outreach booths and events throughout the southern Alberta region;
- Increase CPAWS membership and engagement on conservation campaigns;
- Act as the main contact for summer outreach activities;
- Schedule outreach activities;
- Create new, engaging outreach activities and materials for boothing;
- Report on outreach activities including all data entry;
- Create outreach-related social media activity, as needed;
- Assist in the coordination of events logistics;
- Organize and develop materials for community outreach events and other communications projects as needed; and
- Assist in volunteer program development, management, and training.
Position Requirements
- 18-30 years of age;
- Canadian citizen;
- Returning student;
- Passion for nature, knowledge of southern Alberta ecosystems and biodiversity;
- Awareness about CPAWS conservation campaigns and strong understanding of conservation;
- Strong public speaking skills, outgoing personality;
- Strong organizational skills, initiative and ability to be self-motivated;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Criminal record check;
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends; and
- Ability to travel around southern Alberta for community engagement events.
Field of Studies
Environmental Studies (knowledge of conservation issues, campaigns and terminology), Geography, Natural Sciences, Education, Communications (media relations, stakeholder relations, writing), Public Relations (event organization, information flow management), Business or Marketing, or other related fields.
