MATERIALS NEEDED
Blindfolds for each participant
Sound maker (preferably something that sounds like a drum)
TIME
20 minutes
Instructions
- This game can be played indoors or outdoors (of course… outdoors is much more fun!)
- Have all participants blindfolded and spaced apart
- Have one individual stand in place and be the drum. They do not move in the first round
- Play begins when participants hear the first drum beat and they make their way towards the drum
- Once participants have found and tagged the drummer, they must move aside and watch SILENTLY as the other players find their way. Do not help others! They will find their way!
- Remind everyone that this is not a race and the slower you go, the more you will learn
- Play other rounds with more drums or have the dummer move around the playing area
Discussion
- Was it difficult to be blindfolded? Or did everyone find their way using all their senses (besides sight)?
- Who was calm and patient?
- Who rushed forward and bumped into things?
- Is going fast and getting to the drum first really the point? Or did you move so slowly that you wished you had gone faster to catch up?
- What is “success” in this activity? What do you consider “success” in life?
