Due to early winter conditions, Moraine Lake Road in Banff National Park and Yoho Valley Road in Yoho National Park (leading to Takakkaw Falls) will remain closed for the season. Both roads are open seasonally and typically close to vehicular traffic after Thanksgiving.

Lake Louise

Weather-dependent, Parks Canada’s shuttle service from the Town of Banff to Lake Louise and Johnston Canyon will resume Thursday, October 4. Shuttle service from the Lake Louise Overflow Parking Lot to the Lake Louise lakeshore will resume Friday, October 5. Updates on the shuttles will be posted to Banff National Park’s Facebook and Twitter channels. More information can also be found at Parks Canada Visitor Centres.

Parks Canada shuttles from the Town of Banff to and within Lake Louise run until Monday, October 8.

NEW as of Tuesday October 9^, 2018, ROAM transit will begin regional service from the Town of Banff to Lake Louise. Complimentary service is available until December 2, 2018. For more information visit: roamtransit.com.

Additional Information:

–        Check DriveBC and Alberta511 for current road conditions before travel.

–        Expect winter driving conditions on Highway 93N, throughout Yoho National Park and near Lake Louise. For safety reasons, additional road closures may be required.

–        Shuttle service to Lake O’Hara (Yoho National Park) is finished for the season. Bus reservations open in April for summer 2019.

–        Kicking Horse Campground (Yoho National Park) is closed for the season due to early winter conditions. Monarch Campground is open for the Thanksgiving long weekend and will close Tuesday, October 9. Camping is available on a first-come first-served basis. Alcohol is not permitted in campgrounds during long weekends.

–        Drive to the conditions. Slow down and leave space when driving in winter conditions.

–        Many trails are now impassable and may have increased avalanche risk. Check the Kootenay, Yoho and Banff national parks trail reports before leaving and be prepared to change your scheduled activities due to rapidly changing winter conditions.
